This project was done for a local Sonoma artist who desired a natural looking yard to surround and highlight his rustic sculptures and newly renovated home. He wanted the resulting plants to be drought resistant and hardy enough to stand up to the summer Sonoma sun. The property had fully grown native California oaks, but very little other landscaping.
Working closely with the artist on every aspect of the art garden, The Land Collaborative brought in locally sourced boulders to frame the dozens of sculptures. Multi-hued gravel paths were designed to meander in-between the boulders and invite exploration. Chairs tucked into shady alcoves provide a pleasant space for contemplation and relaxation. Native, drought tolerant plants were used throughout. Subtle landscape lighting completes the viewing experience.
