Locally known as the haunted house of Sonoma and boarded up for more than 30 years, this historic Sonoma estate needed a complete architectural and landscaping overhaul. Its new owners wanted to bring the property back to life, yet retain its 1910 ambiance.
The Land Collaborative completely redesigned the front, side and back yards, staying true to the home’s original design, while adding pleasant areas for classic outdoor Sonoma living. A trellis leads to the side yard and garden, with a cozy firepit for evening gatherings. The outdoor kitchen and dining terrace reflects the historic feeling of the home with natural stone throughout, including walls, benches and paving. The driveway is on a turf paving system filled with soil and native grass, keeping with what early century visitors experienced as they entered through the front gate.
We are very proud that the home won the 2013 Sonoma League for Historic Preservation Award of Excellence for “Reconstruction, Renovation and Preservation of an Historic 1910 Home.”
